What Should Happen When Someone Buys a Pass?
- Notes
Hi everyone, hope you're doing well.
The Passes page is live. Everything you sell is in one place now, with search and filters, instead of being spread across a few screens that never appeared in the menu at all. That's the first real piece of the reorganizing we wrote about last time.
The more interesting thing came up while we were building it.
A setting nobody has ever seen
When someone buys a pass with several classes on it, one of two things can happen.
Both are reasonable. They are also completely different, for you and for the person who bought it.
Here's the part that bothered us. Which one happens is decided by a setting we have never shown you or asked you about, and the default is to hold places. So some of you are selling a reserved spot and some of you are selling a balance, and it wasn't a decision either way.
What we don't know
Which one is right.
Our guess is that it depends on what you're running. A ten week course where everyone moves through together seems like it wants places held. A punch card someone works through over a few months seems like it doesn't. But that's us reasoning from the outside.
We also don't know whether it should be a setting at all, or whether it should just follow from the kind of thing you're selling. Asking you to answer a question you've never been asked is not obviously better than getting it right by default.
The question
When someone buys a ten class pass from you, what do you expect to happen?
Should we hold them a place in the next ten classes and remind them before each one? Or leave it open and let them come when they like?
Either answer is useful. If it's "depends", tell us what it depends on.
