I studied music at the Aspen School, Yale University, the University of California (Berkeley), and at Mills College. My interests range very widely, from the classical music of north India to the integration of computers with musical instruments. All of this makes sense to me because my understanding is based on the classical tradition of the West, and this is what I advise all students to begin with. The other side of teaching is understanding in the most sympathetic way the interests, talents, and capabilities of each student. Teaching, like music, requires listening.
